Early Start Groups (Ages 3-6): Play-Based Learning
Our early start groups focus on the foundational elements of social interaction through engaging, play-based activities. At this developmental stage, children are introduced to key social thinking concepts such as "Thinking Thoughts" and "Feeling Feelings," helping them recognize that they have thoughts and feelings that may be different from others. Skills worked on include sharing, turn-taking, understanding emotions, and initiating interactions, laying the groundwork for meaningful social connections.
Middle School Groups (Ages 7-13): Friend-Based Socialization
As children enter middle school, the focus shifts to friend-based socialization. This stage emphasizes the development of perspective-taking skills and understanding the "Group Plan," which teaches them to collaborate and function as part of a group. We explore concepts like "The Four Steps of Communication," fostering effective communication skills, conflict resolution, and the ability to make and maintain friendships.
Teenage Groups (Ages 14-18): Common Interests, Friendships, and Dating
Teenage years are marked by a search for identity and belonging. Our program addresses these needs by centering on common interests, friendships, and the nuances of dating. Utilizing concepts such as "The Social Fake" versus "Being Genuine," we guide teens in understanding the balance between social conformity and authenticity. Skills such as empathy, navigating social nuances, understanding complex social cues, and developing deeper relationships are emphasized.
Late Adolescent Groups (Ages 19+): Socialization and Workplace Skills
As individuals transition to adulthood, our focus broadens to include socialization in professional settings. We introduce "The Social Thinking-Social Competency Model," preparing them for the workplace through understanding expectations, teamwork, and the importance of flexibility in thinking. Key skills such as networking, professional communication, interview preparation, and workplace etiquette are developed to ensure a smooth transition into the professional world.
